Travis Perkins, the UK’s largest supplier of building materials to the construction and home improvement markets, unveiled its winning entry for a school art competition it held in London to mark their signature of the Armed Forces Covenant in March.

The art competition was held across a number of schools in central London to highlight the importance and sacrifice of UK veterans who fought in conflicts over the last one hundred years.

The winning entry, selected from over 100 entrants, was Amelia Shooter, Year 5 at Francis Holland School in Westminster. The prize for the winner was to have their piece of art, with the help of a local artist, made into a giant mural and shown on display at the UK’s only surviving historic timber yard on Pimlico Road, located in the heart of Belgravia.

In attendance at the unveiling was Amelia Shooter (age 9), Francis Holland School, Travis Perkins Branch Employee and Artist, Sarah Bozoky, Assistant Branch Manager Samantha Walters, and Charles Belbin and James Grant from the military charity SSAFA.

Commenting on the competition, Travis Perkins Group Property Director, Martin Meech, said:

"We were amazed at the poignancy and understanding behind the children's work, which often accurately reflected the sacrifice of the UK's servicemen and women. We are really proud to have this mural on the wall of our oldest branch as a symbol of our armed forces covenant pledge.”

James Grant, Head of Corporate & Events at SSAFA the Armed Forces charity said:

“SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, is grateful for the ongoing efforts of Travis Perkins which help to provide vital support for members of the Forces, past and present, and their families when in need. Travis Perkins signing the Armed Forces Covenant in March demonstrates their commitment to supporting our Armed Forces community. This artwork is a poignant testament to that pledge and showcases the talent of the winner, Amelia. SSAFA’s own broad local reach mirrors Travis Perkins’ relationship with the wider community and we look forward to working together moving forwards”
